Is Conservatism Dead?

The title of this post is the issue that seems to worry me the most.  What is it about a conservative mindset that some find so upsetting?  Is it that conservatives are hoarders?  Is it that they hold Judeo/Christian beliefs -and live by them?  Maybe it's the fact that they enjoy the freedoms set out in the Constitution of the United States -as spelled out by the Founding Fathers, and as a follow up to the Declaration of Independence.

Why are they so hated?  As spoken by the masses of the Occupy Wall Street movements (in their various flavors) a belief of spreading the wealth, a 'big brother' government that supplies all needs to everyone whether they want it or not, and subjugation to the powers that the elite of society put into office. Yes, I said put into office.  George Sorros, Hollywood liberals to name a few, have run roughshod over our republic.  The hippies of the 60's have not gone out to pasture quietly, they have buried themselves like moles, only to pop up within the past few years like zombies spewing their mantra of equality for everyone. Now it's not equal rights for all races, it's equal wealth for all -whether it should be given to one, or taken from another.  By the way, I noticed that they get a little irate when the homeless showed up to get some of the food they were getting down at Wall Street.  Hypocrites.

The story of the ant and the grasshopper comes to mind.  How the any worked hard over the course of the summer to put away food and resources for a long winter, while the grasshopper took no preparations for the upcoming seasons.  When it came time for the winter to set in, the ant was prepared, and the grasshopper suffered his fate.  However, I recently saw that a new version of the story has the ant sharing the food and resources he accumulated.  The grasshopper enjoyed the work of others so he could survive -sound familiar?

I am a Conservative (in case you didn't get it by now).  I and my family work hard.  I am a business owner, I work another job, my son works, and my daughter can't wait to get her working papers.  Voluntary service is in all of our vocabularies (to an extent that is reasonable for the work that all of us do as work, or school permit) to give to others less fortunate either locally or internationally.  For the long hours we spend, WE should be rewarded.  WE sought out the training to do what we do.  WE took the initiative to do it.  We work to provide for OUR needs.  Why should I be forced to live the updated ant and grasshopper story?

I believe that Conservatism is not dead.  I believe that most of us are just too conservative in our want to vocalize our opinions.  The media, and the Republican party are hell-bent on putting us down like a sick animal; which by the way, is their view of us when we are actually healthier than ever.  The scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail comes to mind of John Cleese talking with Eric Idle about giving up an elderly person who is 'dead,' but in actuality states that he 'is happy, and wants to go for a walk.'  I should go on a walk.  I should go on a walk on November 6, 2012, and before that for the Republican Primary here in New York.  What say you?  Over a third of my family's income goes to support the government, and others through various programs.

Patience Grasshopper, a harsh lesson is about to be taught, but only if the Conservative movement can get itself mobilized and out into the streets, media, and polling stations.  And for my OSW readers -Occupy this!
