In other news...

I have shared (borrowed) this from G+.  Patrick makes a valid point.  I hope that some of the states (are you listening California?) don't get any ideas.

Ok, can someone please explain to me what the hell is wrong with Papandréou? Greece gets half of its debt wiped after an excruciating negotiation, and he plays poker with the deal?
Of course the people are unhappy right now, what does he expect? And of course a yes gets him legitimacy (and he can sleep better at night, yay for him), but what happens if he gets a no? (Which is likely by the way.) Well, that's what happens: his country and his people are in an even worse situation than they've been until now, which seemed almost impossible.
What does he think the people, who are angry now because they don't understand what's happening to them, are going the feel like if the deal doesn't go through and they don't get the debt halved and the supervision of adults to clean up the bloody mess they've created with their economy? They'll vote "no" with their gut, and make their own situation worse in the process. Great move, genius!

Am I missing something here? This seems like a very cowardly thing to do, with no outcome creating a better situation. Best result: things stay the same. The courageous thing would have been to:
- Accept the freaking supervision for an economy and a country that desperately need it (they can't seem to get their things in order by themselves, what else are they expecting? Magical money starts raining from the sky?)
- Stay strong with a popular movement that doesn't understand the realities of the situation (the responsibility of it which is entirely theirs, by the way).
Oh, and what will they do until the referendum? They don't even have money to pay people now! This is enragingly irresponsible...

Oh, and yes, he's taking the rest of the EU down with him, which is the cherry on top.
